Decorative Plants
Brighten your outdoor landscape with pansies and decorative kale this season. Pansies come in a variety of colors and kale adds some “texture” to your plantings.
Holiday Plant Care Tips
With Christmas holidays quickly approaching, use plants to help celebrate with family and friends. Poinsettias, amaryllis, Christmas cactus, rosemary topiaries, and Norfolk pine are some of the traditional holiday plants that can be used to decorate indoor. Check the soil moisture regularly. Soil should be moist but not saturated. Consider the following for holiday plant care:
1) Place plants in the brightest light possible for six hours a day
2) Room Temperature should be between 68 and 72F
3) Water your plant only when soil is dry. One to two inches deep.
4) Fertilize only once during the holiday using a water soluble fertilizer.
5) Check for insect pests and if present use a safe indoor control method.
Fall Garden Harvest
Gardeners should be seeing results of their fall plantings soon. Broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, greens, lettuce, and spinach are nearing harvest. If you didn’t plant fall vegetables, they should be readily available in the produce section very soon! Vegetable crops like those mentioned above will see a benefit from a nitrogen fertilizer such as urea, ammonium sulfate or blood meal.
